Our Leadership
 Dr. Doyle M. Sager Senior Pastor E-mail Doyle | Doyle is a native of Albany, MO, and has served as senior pastor of First Baptist City, Jefferson City, since July 1997. His life mission statement expresses a desire to live God's grace and to build bridges of understanding and love, and his life text is Galatians 5:22-23. He loves his wife Janet, his three children and their spouses and his grandchildren. (He also really loves coffee and the Kansas City Royals). For relaxation, Doyle follows Major League Baseball, collects old books, watches lots of movies (especially old black and whites) and reads lots of poetry and presidential biography.
Doyle holds degrees from Central Missouri University (BS Ed) and from Midwestern Baptist Seminary (Master of Divinity, Doctor of Ministry). He enjoys his work on the Ethics Committee of a local hospital, observing the convergence of compassion, justice and science. Doyle currently serves as president of the Baptist General Convention of Missouri and on the board of trustees of William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri. He was co-founder and president of Mainstream Missouri Baptists (1999-2002), an organization committed to preserving historic Baptist principles.

 Rev. Rod Maples Associate Pastor of Worship E-mail Rod | Rod has been on staff at First Baptist as Associate Pastor of Worship since January 1998. He is a native of Missouri, having grown up in the Springfield area. He graduated from Willard High School in 1974, earned a Bachelor of Music in Church Music from Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, Missouri in 1979, and then received a Masters in Church Music at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1981.
Prior to serving in Jefferson City, Rod was Minister of Music and Youth at First Baptist Church of Joplin, Missouri (1981-1991), and Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Sedalia, Missouri (1991-1998).
Rod is married to Sherry, a kindergarten teacher, North Dakota native, and graduate of Jefferson City High School and the University of Missouri. They have a son, Blake, who is in college. They also have a very spoiled Golden Retriever, Goldy.
Rod enjoys time with family, friends, running, a good cup of coffee, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Mizzou sports, and of course, all kinds of music!  Alice Satterfield serves as Music Assistant. |
 Rev. Melissa Hatfield Associate Pastor of Youth/Missions E-mail Melissa | Melissa has been on staff at First Baptist since January 2000. Melissa is a native of Jefferson City. She attended Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri and graduated in 1995 with a B.A. in Social Science/Spanish Education. She earned a Masters of Education in Counseling from Lincoln University in 2000. Melissa worked for the Jefferson City Public School District from 1995 – 2000 as a high school history teacher and as a counselor for at-risk high school students. Melissa was licensed to the gospel ministry in March 2004 and has finished several hours of seminary work towards a Masters of Divinity at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Kansas. Melissa loves life in general! She enjoys spending time with family, friends, and teenagers; reading great books; watching movies; and spending time outdoors.

 Rev. Jeanie McGowan Associate Pastor to Single Adults E-mail Jeanie | Jeanie was called as Minister to Single Adults in September 1996. She served in that capacity until January 1, 2005, when she became the Pastor of Equipping for FBC. Prior to September 1996, Jeanie served as the secretary to the senior pastor for four years. Jeanie grew up in Buffalo, Missouri and moved with her parents to Verdun, France after completing high school. There she attended the University of Maryland branch in Verdun. She married her high school sweetheart, Keith, in Verdun, France and they moved to Joplin, Missouri, and later moved to Jefferson City, where they became members of First Baptist Church. Jeanie served in a variety of capacities in the church as a lay leader. She continued her undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she majored in music. Her graduate work was done at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Kansas, where she graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in May 2003. Jeanie was ordained to the gospel ministry in August 2003. Jeanie has been active with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship since its inception. She served on the national Coordinating Council for three years and is a past Moderator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Missouri. Jeanie and her husband, Keith, have three grown sons – Brett, Sean and Tory – and eight grandchildren. Her favorite leisure-time activities are reading, music (listening, singing or playing the violin), cooking and enjoying time with family and friends. |
 Rev. Leigh Ann Halverson Associate Pastor of Children and Families E-mail Leigh | Leigh has served as the Associate Pastor of Children and Families at First Baptist since July 2008. She was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Elon University in Burlington, NC and her Master’s of Divinity degree from the McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta, GA.
Prior to serving in Jefferson City, Leigh served with the youth ministry at First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC; Children’s Ministry at St. Mark’s Church in Burlington, NC; Terry P. Moncrief Baptist Center for Ministry in Atlanta, GA and Northeast Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.
These experiences clarified the call God placed in Leigh’s heart to serve God through serving children and their families. She is excited about the opportunity to partner with the First Baptist Church congregation in establishing a strong foundation of faith in the lives of children.

 Rev. Brint Hilliard Associate Pastor of Discipleship E-mail Brint | Brint was called as the Associate Pastor of Discipleship in August of 2009. Brint was born and raised in Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a Bachelors degree in Political Science in 1991. After a few years in business, Brint went back to Seminary and earned a Masters of Divinity degree from George W. Truett Seminary of Baylor University in Waco, Texas in 1999. Brint was ordained to the ministry by Columbus Avenue Baptist Church of Waco, Texas in October 1999.
Brint has had several ministry experiences which include being a Minister of Families and Spiritual Formation, Minister of Education, Associate Director of Waco Baptist Association, and Senior Pastor. Brint has served churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina. These places of service have given him a wealth of ministry experiences that he brings to FBC Jefferson City. Brint is happily married to Sharilyn and they have three children: Joshua, Bailee, Peyton. The family stays busy with school, sports, band, choirs, and all things fun! When not chasing kids, Brint likes to take his wife on “adult only” dates, go to movies and read books. He also loves football with the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners being his two favorite teams. The St. Louis Rams and the Missouri Tigers are also at the “top of the list.”

 Laurel Dunwoody Church Administrator E-mail Laurel | Laurel has been on staff as FBC’s full-time Church Administrator since April 2007.
She began her professional career with the Missouri Hospital Association and Affiliates, having worked there over eight years, serving as their Director of Management Information Systems. After that, she was employed as the Corporate Planner (Operations)/Director of Information Services at Missouri Advantage, followed by varying jobs in the health care field and university settings – most recently working for University Behavioral Health Services as the Director of Finance & Operations. She was the transition manager for the divestiture of University Behavioral Health Services from University Health Care to Burrell Behavioral Health in Springfield, MO.
Laurel was born and raised in Kansas City, attended Hickman Mills High School, North Central Missouri College and William Woods University. Her degree is in management with an emphasis in computer science. She is married to Kirt, a Moberly native, and owner of a network consulting company, Total Network Integration. They have four children, two dogs, a cat and live in the thriving metropolis of Tebbetts, MO.

 Rev. Noah Angel Pastor of Hispanic Ministries E-mail Noah | Noah has served as pastor of Familia Cristiana Internacional, Jefferson City, since May 2009. He is a native of El Salvador, but due to civil unrest during the early 80’s his family moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, when Noah was 15. After graduating from high school Noah earned an equivalent to a Bachelor in Theology from the Latin-American Faculty of Theological Studies, in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1991, a Diplomat in Human Development from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara in 1992 and a Diploma in sacred music in 1993 from Emmanuel Baptist Church also in Guadalajara. He was ordained to the ministry in 1992.
In August 1993, (during the big flood) Noah came in his ark to Jefferson City, invited by the Language Department of the Missouri Baptist Convention. In 1998 he earned an Associates in Arts degree from Columbia College, Columbia, Missouri, in 2002 a Bachelor of Health Science in Nuclear Medicine from University of Missouri-Columbia and a MBA from William Woods University in 2007. He is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.
Noah has served as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, in Guadalajara, Mexico; Hispanic Baptist Mission of First Baptist Church, California, Missouri; Founder and Pastor of Latin American Ministries, Columbia, Missouri; and Nuclear Medicine staff at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City until December of 2008. He served in the advisory committee council of the Nuclear Medicine Department at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Noah currently serves on the board of the Missouri Baptist Credit Union, in Jefferson City. He enjoys reading Christian and business books, medical journals and American History, follows Mizzou Football and Basketball and lately downloading books in his i-Pod.

 Gabrielle Wittenberger Recreation Assistant E-mail Gabrielle | Gabrielle or Gabe, as she is known to most, was born in Newberry, South Carolina and spent her younger years traveling around the lower part of the U.S. because of her father’s job in major construction. However, no matter where the family traveled, they always ended back in Missouri. Gabrielle attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK as a theatre major. She transferred to Stephens College, Columbia, MO the following year and continued her theatre training. After taking several years off from school she received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Social Studies Education from Lincoln University in December 2006. She began working for Blair Oaks school district as a home bound teacher and then moved on to New Bloomfield school district for the next year and a half as the American History and American Government teacher.
Gabrielle is no stranger to FBC, she began working for FBC at the Child Development Center in 1994. After the daycare closed Gabrielle decided to go back to college. While she was in school she came back to work at FBC for Ken Ledbetter as a Recreation Assistant during the noon basketball league. That opportunity then led to her continued work as a recreation assistant for Craig Hendrickson.
Gabrielle is married to Mark and they have two daughters Natalie and Hope. She is the Executive Director of The Little Theatre of Jefferson City and loves all things theatre. She also enjoys spending time with friends, listening to music and generally living life to the fullest.
She is very grateful that she has been given the opportunity to try to fill the shoes of both Ken and Craig as the new Recreation Associate. |
