Pastor’s Pen – February 2023
Dear friends,
We live in a noisy world. Even when alone, we’re bombarded with texts, emails, and social media messages. Even when we turn the noise off, our inner dialogue can be deafening. How do we better listen to God when the noise is loud and chronic, not just for our own good but for the glory of God and the good of the world as well?
This is the focus of our Lent series, AIRPLANE MODE: Silencing the noise to amplify God. Lent officially begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22, and will continue through Maundy Thursday on April 6, as we slow down and reflect on Christ’s journey to the cross.
This series is about discovering the gift of removing ourselves from the noise to rest and abide in Jesus. We’ll look at the noise that often overwhelms us, as well as some spiritual practices to help us silence the noise and amplify God.
There will be six-week small group options to help you dive deeper into community with others and engage in some spiritual practices together. Visit fbcjc.org/lent for more information and a link to sign up for our small groups.
As author Richard Foster said, “the spiritual disciplines are not the answer; they only lead us to the Answer.” Let’s learn together how to turn down the noise so we might rest in Christ.
