Local Missions

Serve Generously through Local Missions

One of our core values is serving generously. As people of faith, we share our time and resources with others in our church, community, and world. Christ calls us to reach out to those in need and spread the Good News of the Gospel. We are also called to engage in faithful work as disciples and leaders—work that advocates for right where we see wrong, energizes our faith, deepens our understanding of scripture, and acts on our beliefs. All this and more are ways we serve as the Body of Christ.

LOCAL MISSION PARTNERS

Common Ground Community Center

We give most of our Benevolence offering to Common Ground and provide two volunteers every Wednesday. We have a representative, Steve Whitlock, on the Advisory Committee who helps engage our church in further involvement as needs and requests arise from Common Ground.

Food 4 Kids

Each summer, our church participates in a week of preparing and delivering meals to children in our community who are in need. For the past three years, First Presbyterian has coordinated this program. We provide volunteers to work for a week in late July or early August.

Jefferson City Room At the Inn

We proudly host Jefferson City’s overnight warming shelter from December through March for those experiencing homelessness. Beds and meals are provided for up to 20 guests from 5:30 pm - 7:00 am. Volunteers are needed to provide meals and other donations and to serve as evening, overnight, or morning hosts. Click here for volunteer opportunities.

Mission JC

Once a year, we cancel our Sunday worship services to worship through service. On a Sunday in April since 2013, we have organized community service projects for people to be involved in and have highlighted our partners. It has grown to over 600 volunteers and 11 churches.

Piecemakers

Piecemakers is open to beginning and experienced quilters alike. Participants work on quilts, lap blankets, pillows, and totes and donate them to various organizations. We use machine quilting.

They meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 11:00 am in Room 101. Leader: Gwen Dykes, Team Leader.

South Elementary School

We have partnered with South since 2009. The partnership has grown over the years, allowing us to establish an excellent relationship of trust and collaboration with the staff and families. Read more about our partnership here.

If you would like to serve as a mentor or volunteer in other ways, contact Cherri Wiliams, Team Leader.
